This 425-watt, high-performance, 5.1-channel A/V receiver gives you more ways to connect!

There are countless ways to access and store your favorite media, from external hard drives to set-top cable boxes to smartphones. But if your home audio/video receiver doesn’t give you options for connecting to those media, it’s borderline useless. The Harman Kardon® AVR 1610 gives you a simple way to connect to everything you love. This 425-watt, 5.1-channel, networked audio/video receiver is loaded with options that let you access your media. It features five 3D-ready HDMI® inputs, including one compatible with MHL, so you’ll have more than enough ways to access content on your HD cable box, Blu-ray™ player, MHL-equipped portable devices or Roku Streaming Stick™ dongle. It also includes DLNA® 1.5 networking and HARMAN TrueStream Bluetooth® technology so you can stream high-fidelity audio from your mobile devices. Regarding sound, the AVR 1610 features our exclusive Natural Sound Processing (NSP), which creates a rich, enveloping sound from any source – particularly with two-channel streaming content. And to get the very best sound based on your speakers and listening environment, its new EZSet/EQ™ III process automatically calibrates the system. And with HARMAN GreenEdge™ technology, the AVR 1610 is environmentally friendly, too.

AVR 1610 is rated 3.7143 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent performance The 1610 works beautifully. I have it paired to 5 Polk audio speakers and a sub. The sound is great--the features are great. Amazing that the AVR only weighs 10 pounds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfecto I bought this model a couple of weeks ago and am pleased with the device's features. The 3D bluray hdmi connection is perfect. It is connected to a set of speakers fisher stv-712b and Sony center and surround. The sound is great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good first time receiver I have used this receiver about 2 weeks and it has been working great ever since. I wish there were more watts per channel, considering that this unit goes for $400, but it gets the job done. I am using 2 Polkaudio bookshelf speakers and a Polkaudio subwoofer as well, and they sound crystal clear. This unit could use more input connections, there is only 1 optical audio input and 2 sets of rca inputs. I would have expected more for the price. This is a good starter receiver, but you may want to consider a different model depending on your input needs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The terrible menus and cheap remote ruin it all. It looks awesome although quite delicate since it's all shiny plastic, very easy to scratch. The power light is too bright even during stand-by. You can set the knob light to extremely bright or completely off but nothing in between. Looks great in the store but annoyingly bright while watching a movie at home. Sound quality and features are excellent, but the On Screen Display menus are intrusive and of extremely low resolution. The most simple every-day task requires too much navigation through the awful menu for everyone in the room to watch. Then there's the remote control. Absolutely terrible, even more non-intuitive than the menus and you need to point it straight and close to the device. No amount of fresh batteries can help the poor IR light in it. It's all plasticy and the design could not be more generic and boring. Any cheap oscillating fan has a better remote. There's a smartphone app, but it's heavily bugged and without fixes even after over a year since I first used it. This could easily support web access from a laptop or tablet for setup, but for some reason it's not offered. Everything is exclusively accessed through the OSD menu. Very little can be done from the front panel. Don't even think of using it without a TV connected; without the OSD you will be extremely limited. You'd think the Bluetooth capability will be practical, but not here. There's not a button anywhere to select Bluetooth. To use it you must first turn on your TV, enter the OSD menu, select inputs, then scroll through all inputs to the very end which is Bluetooth. At least pairing is very simple and always works. On the front of the device there's an input selector up and down. If you want to try that, you need to be patient. The device will take a second to try and sync to each digital input before letting you go to the next while you scroll. The sound is great and has all the features you might need in this decade, but the cumbersome and hideous menus ruin the entire experience. This is my first and most likely my last Harman Kardon product. I really thought they were much, much better. This was clearly designed to look and sound great in a store without ever considering the user experience at all.

How do watch tv via cab/Sat without the receiver being on?

Asked by: MYork2112
You can follow this setup: *Connect your Cable/Sat box directly to the TV via HDMI/RCA/Coax cables. *Connect the TV to your AVR via the optical cable (Downside: you won't be able to see the OSD/On Screen Display of the AVR) *If you are going to watch and you would like to use the AVR, set your TV speakers to external speakers and then switch ON the AVR(make sure that the AVR is set to the correct audio source)
