which one wud be the best suited for my HKTS16BQ..avr161s/230 or avr171s/230?..please advise.

Asked by: kidrock
The HKTS16 satellite speakers can each handle up to 120 watts of RMS power. Both units are virtually identical when it comes to sonic quality, but the 171S has more power (louder) and more versatility (inputs/connections). If you like it loud or have lots of source components to connect, the 171S is the way to go.

i have hkts16BQ can hooked up with harman kardon avr161s/230,,??please advise, can this hkts161 and avr161s possible to use with my friend in philippines ?

Asked by: kidrock
The HKTS16 satellite speakers can each handle up to 120 watts of RMS power. This means that they can handle, and will work well with any one of our current AVR receivers including the AVR 1610S. The receivers and subwoofers sold in this US site are US models, so they are 110 volt versions. A step down transformer can be used, however, I would recommend getting Harman Kardon products from a local store for warranty reasons.

I am hearing impaired and would like to have the ability to connect headphones to the AVR, but at the same time keep the speakers active for others. Is there a way to do this? Normally plugging in headphones turns off the speakers. Thanks for any help.

Asked by: LouC
Unfortunately once a headphone is connected to the AVR 1610s the speakers will be disabled and the audio will sound off on the headphones. The AVR 1610 has a Zone 2 preamp output. As long as the headphones have a RCA connection, You can use these outputs to send a signal to the headphones connected to this as well as the speakers connected to the AVR. The front headphone jack would not be used.

Will the 1610S or any of your S series receivers support the new 4K HDR 2.2 HDCP video/audio? I'm asking as the new Xbox One S produces this video output due to the new HDR 10 format. I had a HK 2600 and sadly it wouldn't produce this 4K format.

Asked by: HKLOVER
The AVR 1510S, 1610S and 1710S would support the newer HDCP 2.2 4K resolution, our AVR's does have the capability to by-pass the signal coming from a 4K source to a 4K capable TV. This would then boil down to whether your TV does support HDCP 2.2 as our AVR would throw the raw 4K res signal from your game console directly to the TV with no signal loss.

I'm not getting sound from AVR when using my 55" Full HD Flat Smart TV J5500 Series 5 internet media content.

Asked by: Don82
The AVR 1610S has ARC (Audio Return Channel) on one of the HDMI ports (Labeled ARC). HDMI/ARC will process both audio and video to the TV, and audio back to the AVR. Please ensure that each end of the HDMI cable is connected via the ARC port to your TV and AVR. This will likely fix the issue.

When I turn my Harman Kardon AVR 1610 on it instantly reads sleep mode and the power button flashes. What's the fix? I purhased this product a few months ago and that store will not help.

Asked by: 1JC1
It sounds like the AVR1610 goes into protect mode. There are four possible reasons for the receiver shutting down. 1. There is a problem internally with the receiver. 2. There is a problem with one or more of your speakers. 3. There is a problem with one or more of your speaker wires. 4. There is a problem with the speaker wiring done on your system. First I would suggest that you check the wiring at every speaker terminal at the back of your receiver and at the back of your speakers. A single strand of speaker wire crossing from one terminal to another would be enough to cause the amp to shut down or go into PROTECT. For example, if you recently did some cleaning and moved the receiver, it is possible that one of the speaker wires shifted and is now grounding out. If you do not find any problems with any of the wiring, you should disconnect all speakers from your receiver. If the receiver continues to go into PROTECT, the problem is in the receiver. This is very unlikely and uncommon. However, if it turns on, the problem is elsewhere. Begin reconnecting one speaker at a time. Eventually you will connect a speaker that will cause the receiver to shut down. At this point you have found your culprit.

What are the specs of the DAC? I can't seem to find it, but haven't downloaded the whole manual. I run 24/192 into my Marantz, and Yamaha. I have HD tracks that are FLAC files on USB. I'd like to be able to still run that if I replace my Marantz. Thanks

Asked by: Jeff J
Unfortunately, the AVR1610S only supports MP3 and WMA audio files from a USB device inserted to the USB port. The DAC used in the AVR1610 is the CS42528. You can get information on it at this link:

Hi, This receiver does not turn automatically on with my TV. I have made connection with HDMI cable (version 1.4) through ARC in- and outputs. It`s pretty annoying. My old ONKYO did have this function.

Asked by: AxuSS
In most ARC products, the receiver and TV essentially act as one device when both are connected via an ARC HDMI port. Usually, when something like this happens, it is a bad cable. Please try replacing the HDMI cable between the TV and AVR. It is very possible this will fix your problem.
