High-performance audio/video receiver that boasts multiple wireless connectivity options, six HDMI inputs and 700 watts of beautiful sound. Power, performance and more connectivity options than you’ll ever need: Introducing the Harman Kardon® networked AVR 1710S, the answer to any entertainment enthusiast’s hunger for performance and versatility. It’s got muscle: up to 700 watts (100 watts per channel). Its 7.2-channel A/V receiver is equipped with HARMAN TrueStream Bluetooth® connectivity, Apple AirPlay, vTuner™ Internet radio and Spotify Connect, giving you multiple options for streaming audio. And with six 3D-ready HDMI® 2.0 inputs, including one equipped for MHL to connect mobile devices, and two HDMI outputs, you’ll have more than enough ways to connect to everything you love – movies, HDTV, sports, MHL-equipped devices and the Roku Streaming Stick™ dongle. While the AVR 171’s connectivity alone makes it desirable, its sound really strikes a chord. It’s the first Harman Kardon AVR to feature our exclusive Natural Sound Processing (NSP), which creates a rich, enveloping surround-sound from any source – particularly with two-channel streaming content. And its EzSet/EQ™ III system automatically calibrates the AVR to your speakers and listening environment. The AVR 1710S is light, too, thanks to HARMAN GreenEdge™ certification – delivering all the power you need with low environmental impact. For those who want it all, the AVR 1710S can’t be matched.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loaded with Features, Fantastic Sound Quality Got Home from work today and found this on my front porch set up was a breeze took all but 20 minutes and then spent the next hour or so tweaking very easy to learn basics no need for manual maybe later this weekend when I configure it on my network but for now was eager to get it up and running so I could relax with some music (for now I've been streaming progressive rock (Emerson Lake & Palmer and ...) From an iPhone through a Klipsch 5.1 Speaker setup via bluetooth using the Surround Neo:6 for music setting on the receiver and I can't tell you how pleased I am with the Sound reproduction I'm hearing just out of the box with a little manual tweaking very impressive and can't wait to spend the time this weekend configuring the network, set up AirPlay and calibrating the room to get the full potential out of this receiver. A definite Best Choice for the technology packed full featured little powerhouse this is and what makes it is the very reasonable cost to feature to quality ratio.

Is there a 5.1 speaker system with wireless rear speakers that could be connected to AVR1710S?

Asked by: Osie
No. There are no surround speakers that are wireless. Harman Kardon does not have any product that is specifically designed to do this. It is ideal to stick with wires instead of going wireless since this will avoid the delay or drop-outs that wireless connections can cause and most importantly, going wireless for your speakers would bypass the wonderful sounding built-in Harman Kardon amplifier.

Does AVR 1710S come in 220/240 - 50/60Hz? Also do HKTS 16Bq & HKTS 30 Bq speaker systems match this receiver?

Asked by: Osie
The AVR1710S has a counterpart model that is designed for countries that uses 220-240V power sources which is the AVR171S. Regarding the speaker systems HKTS 16 and 30, yes, they will work beautifully with the AVR1710S/171S receivers.

The firmware on my 1710s out of the box says V005.14 is this the most current? On the software and downloads page there is an update available called V002.23 for the 1710. Also is there an update history that can tell me what each firmware update does?

Asked by: MCasteel
Thank you for contacting us. The AVR 1710S is one of our newer receivers, it is the replacement to the AVR 1710. Firmware version V005.14 is current. We do not have historical version information. Please contact us via the form at www.harmankardon.com/support-contact.html and we can help find the specific information that you are looking for.

When my device switches to airplay it tends to change the volume to either extremely quiet or extremely loud (overloading my speakers!) I would like to be in control of the volume myself, how do I go about that?

Asked by: Sonica
We are sorry to hear about your issue with the AVR 1710S. The cause of the volume fluctuations may be the music files that you are playing from your IOS device(s). Certain songs tend to be louder than others. This is caused by how the song was recorded. To have all your audio and videos files play at the same volume level, go to iTunes Preference, click Playback, and then select Sound Check. This may also be caused by volume setting on your phone. For example, if you are listening to something on your phone, such as a phone call, and he turns up his phone volume, then when you use airplay to listen through your 1710s, the volume might be high. On the other hand, if you turn down the volume on your phone, then the output on the 1710s might be low. So in effect, there could be two separate systems controlling the overall sound level- the volume control on the 1710s, but also the volume control on your phone. If these thing did not work, please submit a case at www.harmankardon.com/support-contact.html and the Customer Service Team will be more than happy to further assist you.

Does the 1710s have 24 bit 192kh audio? Or do I need to get the HK 3700 OR HK3770? I have looked everywhere on the 1710s page even downloaded the owner manual and can't find an answer. Also is this avr at all capable of receiving an atoms update?

Asked by: MCasteel
AVR 1710S does support 192kHz file format. However, it depends on the means to which you are streaming audio file from source to AVR. If you are considering streaming via USB, it will not work because USB only supports MP3 & WMA files. If you are connecting the source via the AVR's analog RCA input, digital input and/or Bluetooth wireless, it will work as long as the source is able to decode the file. Please note that streaming via Bluetooth will make the audio file compressed. With regards to the ATOMS update, I believe you are referring to ATMOS and I am sorry to inform you that we do not plan to support ATMOS on the AVR 1710s.

Regarding the factory crossover filter default settings on the 1710S. All are preset to 100Hz including the sub. Are the mains using a highpass filter and the sub a lowpass or are all crossover settings in this unit lowpass. I would like to set manually

Asked by: Sparky
The AVR 1710S only has a low pass filter.

Concerning the video flow using HDMI on the AVR1710S. When setting up using my AppleTV 4Gen. The HDMI "out" on the AppleTV Goes into the HDMI1 "in" on the 1710S and then another HDMI cable goes from the HDMI "out" on the 1710S to the HDMI "in" on the TV ?

Asked by: Sparky
That's correct. The way you've configured your audio source device unto the AVR1710S is perfectly fine.
