Exciting sound for all seats
The MINI engineers have designed the chassis of the MINI Clubman models for direct, uncompromising driving pleasure, whether in the urban jungle or on the sandy boulevards of a holiday resort. Following the same principles, Harman Kardon acoustic experts have produced a tailor-made sound system for the MINI estate models that provides sheer listening pleasure – as effective on soft pop sounds as on strong electronic beats. Perfectly integrated into the A-pillars, two 26 mm metal matrix tweeters, together with two brilliant 100 mm mid-range speakers in the door panels, deliver sound to the front seats. The loudspeakers, with innovative ALumaprene diaphragms, have excellent damping characteristics and guarantee a finely balanced frequency response. This new, innovative material also ensures a perfect balance between stiffness and weight.
Two subwoofers in the front door panels, measuring 150 mm in diameter, round off the sound experience in a harmonious way, ensuring faithful reproduction of even the deepest bass rhythms.
The special vehicle architecture of the MINI Clubman, which has a third door on the passenger side for rear-seat passengers, requires a unique sound solution. Harman Kardon acoustic specialists have integrated the loudspeakers in the side panels and in the rear passenger door. They’ve installed another 26 mm metal-matrix tweeter and a powerful 150 mm × 230 mm midbass speaker (woofer) on either side.
In addition, the MINI Clubman models use a powerful, highly efficient 480-watt DSP amplifier in Class D technology, which handles acoustic pressure perfectly for a richly detailed sound. Weighing just 1.3 kilograms, the unit is also notable for its light weight. Because of its superior efficiency, the amplifier radiates minimal heat, rendering an additional cooling mechanism unnecessary. As a result, the amplifier has compact dimensions – just 19.2 × 11.6 × 5.2 centimeters – allowing automakers to save space by installing it behind the side panel. Despite its compact design, the amplifier offers twice the performance of the previous model and ensures more brilliant sound quality. Powerful bass notes, natural-sounding mid-range tones, crystal-clear treble sounds and the precise reproduction of all instruments on the imaginary soundstage maximize listening pleasure for the MINI Clubman driver and every passenger.
