The new tailor-made Harman Kardon® audio system transforms the MINI Convertible models into open-air concert halls. Ten optimally placed speakers in the stylish four-seater provide a fantastic sound experience, giving the driver and passengers the feeling of being at a live performance. The particularly efficient 480-watt DSP amplifier in Class D technology meets all expectations for superior output and guarantees perfect sound allied to significantly improved efficiency.
Maximum listening pleasure and maximum headroom
People who travel in the MINI Cooper Convertible and MINI Cooper S Convertible expect fun, both in driving dynamics and in entertainment. That's why Harman Kardon acoustic experts developed a sound system for the MINI Convertible that scores points with an enveloping, dynamic sound and powerful bass tones, regardless of whether the roof is open or closed. A total of ten high-performance loudspeakers are used in the MINI Convertible models. A 3-way system is integrated in the front and a 2-way system in the rear. Two 26 mm metal-matrix tweeters in the A-pillars and two powerful 100 mm mid-range speakers in the doors provide three-dimensional sound for the front seats. Their innovative ALumaprene diaphragms offer excellent damping characteristics and thus allow a finely balanced frequency response. An extra feature of the diaphragm material is its careful balance between stiffness and weight.
Harman Kardon acoustic specialists have also integrated two bass speakers in the front door panels. With a diameter of 150 mm, these door woofers ensure the faithful reproduction of even the deepest bass rhythms.
The transducers in the rear are specially tailored to the body of the Convertible: The rear side panels feature two more 26 mm metal-matrix tweeters and two dynamic 150 mm mid-bass speakers (woofers).
The powerful, highly efficient 480-watt DSP amplifier in Class D technology feeds the loudspeakers of the MINI Convertible models, handles the acoustic pressure perfectly, and produces a richly detailed sound. Even though it offers twice the output of the previous model, the digital amplifier weighs a mere 1.3 kilograms. The digital amplifier also offers even better sound quality than previous models. Because of its superior efficiency, it radiates very little heat, rendering an additional cooling mechanism unnecessary. As a result, the amplifier has compact dimensions – just 19.2 × 11.6 × 5.2 centimeters - enabling automakers to save space by installing it under the driver's seat.
